So it's not really a secret anymore that I have been planning a new NC for a while now, it had a small hiatus during the nwc/ecl Lan preparation, but I want to get everything ready to go now.
Here is my plan for how the event will be run, and as many details as I have figured out at the moment.
None of this is really confirmed, so things can be changed if there is good discussion about it.
Open for up to 128 teams.
Single elim qualification down to the final 16 teams in the Gold League, teams that lose in the ro32 (17-32) participate in the Silver league.
Both of these league have identical settings.
This will consist of 4 groups of 4 playing GSL format to decide which 8 teams qualify into the final 8 single elim Finals.
Every team that loses in the Qualification stage that isnt in the top 32, may participate in the Wooden Fork event, settings to be decided based on numbers, but likely some small group Round robins/GSL into single elim finals.
The tournament would last approximately 10-12 weeks from the close of sign ups, depending on numbers/format in the Wooden Fork.
3v3 throughout
Sling nerfs, harder than ECL (possibly 100% tax, ie you spend 200 res, ally gets 100) but not entirely banned. I feel that being able to sling 200 stone for a castle, or 200 gold to go imp should remain in the game, only limit the impact of full sling games.
Fixed Position, each team can choose which player is in pocket position, but the flanks are randomised.
Primarily Bo5s throughout the event, featuring a mix of Home maps, Map pack games & set maps. No civ drafting, most likely hidden pick no repeat.
See this thread for an idea of what I was thinking in terms of map pool. Those are not the specific maps, but more the general distribution of land/water/mixed/nomad/crazy maps.
I would like to raise a prizepool of $12,000 usd ($1,000 from my pocket) through donations/contributions and possible sponsors. All of this money would go to the top placing teams.
If money is raised over the $12k goal, the next $1,000 would go towards covering event costs, paying admins a token amount as appreciation for their work, pay artists for any graphics that are made etc.
I would take none of this admin pay, it is purely to reward others who assist with the running of the tournament.
Nations Cup would be completely Open Streaming, everyone is welcome to broadcast the event, the only request would be that all streamers use one of the tournament banners and that they contribute to the tournament in some way if they are able to.
This could be anything from donating to the prizepool, helping with admin work, creating overlays/promotional youtube video etc. Up to each individual streamer to decide what they are able to do in conjunction with the admins.
I ask if there is anyone out there that would like to assist in running the event to contact me. I don't wish to manage this large of a tournament by myself in my spare time.
My goal is to have a few people responsible for different parts of the tournament. Eg I would take are of the Gold League, someone else looks after the Silver League, another 2-3 people takes care of the Wooden Fork, just to split the workload a bit.
