There was some discussion of Arabia on the most recent GL podcast, specifically around Memb's decision to host Warlords 3 instead of King of the Desert. Let's break down some of the arguments Viper and Masmorra made in favor of this decision:
"There is no appetite for single map tournaments"...
It's not all about viewership though and it never has been. If that were the case Microsoft would never have given money to Lidakor for Two Pools. Or funded a tournament like Delicious Whirled Cup where there was no guarantee that big casters would even cover it. It'd be great to at least break...

If you think the lack of a tournament calendar is bad for AoE II, imagine being an AoE IV pro player and you've had $25,000 in prize pools through Q1 with nothing announced (and rumored to be left out of next RBW). This after having the best selling expansion in the history of the franchise...
Well then let's kick this idea up a notch: what if there were an opening match (best of 3) between up and coming teams and then a main event (best of 5) between top teams? For those who know a little SC 2, you know that Rotterdam, one of the biggest casters there, hosts something like this every...
This isn't a tournament though so it doesn't matter if Fox for example isn't ready to compete with GL. I'd still watch a Fox vs Brazil showmatch in a heartbeat. The point is just to get regular high level team game competition and there are more than enough teams for that.
I think many if not most people would like to see more TG competition in 2024. The typical reasons for not hosting TG tournaments are A) lower viewership and B) the fact that it's an admin nightmare. I'm not convinced by A (the obsession with viewership in general is pretty tired at this point)...

Wow. Didn't see that coming, but very cool to see. AoE II pros, now's the time to jump in...
I think the idea would be to make it "the" big tournament, with the biggest prize pool, and make other tournaments schedule around it and not the other way around. And it doesn't have to be EGC, I just mention him because he runs a damn fine tournament. Basically I wish we could go back in time...
That's kind of like saying playing basketball on a normal court is "figured out" and we should add some random elements to spice things up.
Is the early game meta very developed for Arabia? Yes. But I'd argue that castle age onwards it's one the most dynamic maps and simply leads to better games.
It's really not though. It is the standard competitive map around which most balance changes are designed, it's played 70% of the time on ladder, and It's been a mainstay of every S tier tournament, not to mention things like Viper-Jordan BO21, etc. up until very recently.
Do you think...
