Controller players can absolutly be competitive against other controller players.
But they have absolutly no chance against mouse+keyboard. Not even close
If you look at steam charts you will find out that the game is very stable. Not getting much more popular, but also not getting less popular.

I feel like you are very hung up about the twitch streaming platform.
While T90 and Viper has been on FB, their Youtube channels has been doing incredibly well. The grand final of TTL has 230k views on T90s YT channel alone...
Should we not count these views as well when discussing growth...
In my opinion Aoe4 went in the same trap as Aoe3 did. It tried too much to be its own game instead of building on the massive success of Aoe2.
Look at what Aoe2 did when they made that. They never tried to be different then Aoe1, they just tried to be a better version.
Aoe4 is still a good...
You dont have to watch the tournaments if you dont want to.
If no one would watch tournaments, they would stop making them pretty quickly.
But guess what. Alot of people watch tournaments, and enjoy them! :smile:
Closed streaming in LAN-tournaments is not a new thing. Its been pretty much the norm since LAN-events become a thing in aoe2.
I believe all NAC and Escape LAN-events was closed streaming
T90 and SOTL would be on top for me. Both with 300k+ viewers on YT, and massive amounts of views every day
Closely followed by Viper and Hera
If we also include non-English figures we have people like Mario Ovalle, Tatoh or Yo who might deserves a spot on the list.
