Maybe it’s being a prisoner of the moment, but seems likely Hera will end up widely viewed as the top player in aoe2 after a few more S tier tourneys are complete. He’ll never be as dominant as Viper was though. The level of competition is simply too high nowadays.
It’s also completely possible...

Objective reality:
There have been 7 S-Tier 1v1 tournaments in the past year. Here are the results over the past year of Daut and Valas:
Daut: top 16 in all 7, top 12 in 6, top 8 in 3, and made the finals of 1.
Valas...
Honestly the biggest issue isn’t even that ACCM is a #1 seed. It’s that another top 10 player (Daut, Jordan, or MbL) isn’t the #2 seed in that bracket.
What YT channels besides Red Bull were steaming it?
I’m sure the improved viewership for aoe4 is a mix of 1. Aoe2 viewers sticking around, 2. 400k followers on Redbull channel, and 3. Improvements to the game over recent months.
The caster’s channels were live on Twitch the entire event (I assume T90’s FB as well). Total viewership would have certainly been worse without Red Bull involved.
The biggest mistake Redbull made this tournament was condensing aoe2 for the sake of aoe4 to the point that a B stream was heavily required in the group stage and that the deciders had to be a BO3 in order to save time.
Their second biggest mistake was not making Ornlu the main host of the B...
What’s the logic behind starting a BO9 Grand Final at a time where 60%+ of the audience will be asleep halfway through the set (and many asleep before it even starts)?
Hera and Daut have rescheduled their BO21 from this weekend to during the week. Maybe a conflict came up for one of them. But wondering if they were asked to reschedule because it would have been an embarrassment for aoe4 when it received more viewership than the grand final of Golden League.
Yep, gotta think about it from Microsoft’s perspective. They want casual aoe fans to believe aoe4 is still a highly hyped game with a lot of potential. They do so by giving it the larger prize pool and the final series. This will convince people who watch the tourney for aoe1 and 2 that they...
There were 10 S Tier Tournaments last year. You missed Redbull III, IV, V as well as DMWC and Empire Wars Duo. Total prize pool between S Tier tourneys was over $400,000.
So far this year we’ve had official announcements of 2 S Tier tournaments totaling $35,000 total prize pool.
And then...
When it comes to Microsoft funding aoe2, I don't believe it’s as simple as how much Nili/Microsoft wants to allocate towards prize pools. Another huge factor to consider is who will host all the big tournaments we want to see?
Organizing and hosting a tournament is a lot of work, but there...
A Redbull-type of scenario where the corporation is pitching to provide $/tournaments to aoe2 would be great but sitting around waiting for that to happen again isn’t going to get aoe2 anywhere IMO.
So let’s say someone reaches out to sponsors about funding. How would a random person with no...
With the lack of sponsorships from Microsoft this year, I’ve been thinking the same thing. I’m sure someone could pitch outside corporations for sponsorship $ and have success securing funds.
However, the question I have is who would be willing to organize/host it and bring in big viewership...
Nili said in a video on his youtube channel that it was his decision to make NAC4 an aoe4 event (and so he just slightly changed the name).

I’ll put it another way. Let’s compare tournaments of $10k+ from 2021 to 2022 since they generate the most hype and help keep the pro scene incentivized to play
2021 total prize pool from $10k+ tournaments was $137,000 January to May last year.
2022 total prize pool from $10k+ tournaments...
I’m not sure what percentage of this was Microsoft, but quickly adding up liquipedia #s for S and A tier tournaments in 2021 was close to 500k of prize pool.
even if viewer numbers are down 50% from last year (which they probably are due to Viper/T90 and the lack of tournaments), it appears...
