You either like or hate him but nobody can deny that you can't say Arena without saying Edie.
For us he reflects on his series vs F1re and his third outing in a tournament on his favorite map.
Why did you not manage to overcome F1re?
Edie: I guess I titanic once again :d !
I can tell in two games I picked the wrong civ (Franks/Mayans) and in two games the wrong strats (Byz wrong strat, Mayans wrong strat). Byz vs Huns, should have opted with a regular monk rush with Pike upgraded and more mangonels and monks, even if it delay my Imperial time. He attacked in the moment I had 0 army to counter his castle age army so i couldn't really come back from this.
And Frank vs Celt - definitely wrong pick. If I had Celts too, which I also thought to pick, its pretty sure I would have won doing the same strat but with more success in the mangonel wars and just doing Woad Raiders and Trebuchets. Since i was ahead in Imperial time I should have took it. And of course Mayans against Goth ...
I profit of this interview to say that even if in past I had some different with Fire, he is a great player.
What went wrong in the games?
Edie: I kinda explained it in my answer to the first question already.
In G1 it went like I wanted, I would just have hoped for closer map because for this kind of rush you want your opponent to be as close as possible. In all 1 TC rushes the closer the enemy the better. In game 2 I had such a big advantage with the relics placement: I had all 5 relics. He did the right decision and made army at the perfect moment, then took one fight where my army wasn't build yet and I could not come back from this - Huns are fast.
Frank vs Celt, I should have picked Celts too, so I start with a disadvantage already, lacked luck in the mangonel fight and then in Imperial Age, despite trying to do the right units, Celts were too strong and took the game in the last fight with the Rams / Onagers. Mayans vs Goth... well we know it's hard matchup.
Why did you let him restart after he deleted his town center?
Edie: I didn't think one second of not letting him restart. I think we want to see games played.
I had a horrible start and a bad map with resources forward. I would clearly not deserve to win it at all, and would feel ashamed to take a point this way.
How do you rate your overall tournament performance?
Edie: Disappointed but not really sad. I hoped to do better, but its not the first Masters of Arena I fail.
Between being nervous, picking wrong civilization / strat I knew anything can happen. I still think I showed a good level overall.
Which player that did not sign up for the tournament did you miss the most?
Edie: Fedex!
Who do you think will win the event? Who are you rooting for?
Edie: I really don't know. The two players still in the tournament that I'm rooting for are Miguel and Juan now.
Did you enjoy the event? What would you change for a 4th Masters of Arena?
Edie: I enjoyed the tournament yea. Enjoyed watching even more than playing. Playing is pressure, watching is really fun, and this year we had so many 2200+ rated players so the map was played on a really high level since start of tournament. So many good games, Memb getting a lot of viewers, sometimes 600-700. For Arena this is really good and it put light on the map for the community. Many discovered that the map is cool and fun. For theses reasons I thank you a lot. <3
If I could I would change the game settings my dream would be something like this:
G1: Random, G2: Switch, G3: Mirror, G4&G5: free picks with ban or captain mod.
