***WARNING: LONG POST INBOUND***
Nomad_Timmy here, along with LowEloLegend, checking in from the site ownership side.
First off- a big thank you to all of you in the community here for your patience with the site the last several months as we’ve been going through the process of getting things completed legally and administratively, as well as troubleshooting the classic “site cannot be reached” issue that happened a lot in August. We feel very privileged to be able to have such a responsibility to manage this site and we want you to know we are going to work continually to make this an awesome place to keep returning to for the community.
Secondly- we want to share a little bit about us so you can know the type of characters we are and what to be able to expect from us for any future interaction we have together as we all go about and support this community and game in whichever way we do- playing, streaming, developing, creating, managing etc.
LowEloLegends and I have been best friends since we were 10 years old. We’re from a small town where our community civilization bonus would give us like a 20% gather speed on herded animals if it was a thing. We were closet nerds- during the day we played basketball and American football at public school to keep appearances up while in the evening we dreamed up big things like cool video game ideas and plots, Dungeons and Dragons campaign map designs, and watching his dad and my brothers play Stronghold Crusader and Age of Empires 2. One can only remain a closet nerd for so long though and within the year we were duo reading the Lord of the Rings and Icewind Dale trilogy during school hours spamming the “max nerd” button- heck, it may have even been at this time that we learned the importance that Imperial Age advancement didn’t exclusively require a Castle. Blessed be those youthful days and ignorance that believed the British Longbowmen to be the solution to every problem.
We became adults, life throws stuff every which way, Celtic battering rams crush your Longbowmen spam “shoot for the stars” dreams, and we both got separated from consistent contact like we had as kids. We decided to change that since each person in their life, if they’re lucky, gets a few solid, good friends that are like family. Thank goodness for “Age of Empires 2: HD Edition” - we found it in 2018 and started back up regularly. We also appreciate the newly developed tendonitis from smashing the farm queue button at the mill constantly for the Teutons and Goths, but submitted without hesitation to the “Definitive Edition” quality of life changes in 2019.
We both are pretty “casual” players. We often play together with several of my brothers against several Extreme AI on gigantic nomad maps. We, along with my brothers, started playing some ranked matches for some good laughs at ourselves when we made the decision to purchase the asset. I’m sorry to the one and only player thus far which I donjon’d into abdication due to this act. Nonetheless, we love the game and the memories it has and will continue to create for us. We’re grateful for the strong community this game and series has fostered and we want to do our part in strengthening it for all of you.
That wraps up the bit about us two filthy casuals. If you want to know more, simply ask. We believe that each person has a story and is important, and we feel that the world would be in a better place if we all could take a moment to genuinely listen to each other- we all have unique views and experiences, something we can learn from one another. What an awesome thing that we can come together as an international community, have some good fun, and can learn about all the different cultures we get to play as in the game, as well as hopefully learn from the errors of the past so we may live in a more peaceful future.
Lastly- we want to be transparent with what we stand for and the code we strive to live and judge by.
We believe in operating on the principle of good faith. Good faith, in the legal sense, as defined by Cornell Law School is as such:
“Good faith is a broad term that's used to encompass honest dealing. Depending on the exact setting, good faith may require an honest belief or purpose, faithful performance of duties, observance of fair dealing standards, or an absence of fraudulent intent.”
And for those of us other DnD nerds out there who are playing Baldur’s Gate 3 right now:
“The rule of law aids peace and fosters freedom, so long as the laws are just and those who enforce them lenient and understanding.” -Harper Code
Alright, you’ll hear from us shortly as LowEloLegend and myself meet on a weekly basis for aoezone. We’ll be pushing out a newsletter to you all shortly.
Once more, thank you all for whichever parts you contribute to this community, however large or small it is. I love getting to see my brothers teach my nieces and nephews how to play Age of Empires 2 from a young age like I had growing up, as well as excited to teach my own kids as well (new father also checking in). We appreciate these efforts of the community in keeping this game not only alive, but thriving. I mean… who thought we’d live to see the day when we get the possibility of warrior monks mass stealing eight relics at once from a monastery raid for a relic swap victory?
Now go “start the game already!”
Signing off,
