Welcome, Youpudding. With T90’s recent videos your name has become well-known in autumn 2023. But today we want to let readers know more about you as a person and your way to where you are now.
A. INTRODUCTION:
Please introduce yourself shortly. (Any personal details you want to share like first name, age, occupation (full time AoE, student, etc.), etc.)
Hello everyone, I am Youpudding. I was born in the year 2000, and I am currently a full-time player for the TAG team.
When did you start playing AoE 2? Have you played AoE/AoM/AoE 3/AoE 4? If yes, what do you think about those, what makes you like AoE 2 more than them?
I started playing AoE 2 around 2006, but back then it was just casual play and I didn't even know about build orders. It wasn't until the release of AoE 2: DE that I started playing ranked matches and learning more advanced strategies against other players. I have only played AoE 2.
Did or do you also play AoE 2 on other platforms than AoE 2 DE? Which?
AoE 2 (2013).
How did you get the name “Youpudding”? Have you used other names too before?
I go by the name Youpudding because it sounds very similar to my real name. I've used many names before, but they were all chosen randomly, and I would change to a new name shortly after.
What teams have you been in? Which tournaments have you participated in, which were your favourite experiences so far?
TAG is the first team I joined. KotD 4 was the first tournament I participated in. I was both nervous and excited at the time, and that feeling left a deep impression on me.
With which setup and at what place do you usually play? Would you add a photo of your gaming setup?
I usually play games in my room:
Are you streaming too? If yes, what is your channel? How often do you stream?
I'm not currently streaming, but I will be live on YouTube or Twitch in the near future.
How did you react when you found out that T90 made videos about you?
I'm glad to have come up with a tactic that people find interesting.
You have become well-known for your Sicilian strategy with Serjeants and gold-market economy, but people who have watched you play more often know that you also play other strategies and like to try out different things in general. I think you were the first one who played an American civilisation (Incas?) on Aguaje Swamp in the Blue Carbon Cup and after that almost everybody did it too (Aztecs/Incas). Would you say that is typical of you, that you think a lot about strategies and try out “non-meta” things?
Yes, I enjoy exploring some non-meta tactics.
B. PRIVATE LIFE:
Which city do you come from? How do you like it there? Where would you like to live?
I live in New Taipei City. It's nice here, and I don't have any specific desire to live elsewhere at the moment.
What’s your favourite
Food and drink?
Shakya (custard apple), Bubble tea.
Animal? (And why?)
Cockatiel, because they are very cute!
Colour?
Maybe orange.
Musician, song, movie, series, actor and/or book?
My favourite books are a novel series by Jin Yong. I rarely watch movies and don't often listen to music.
What do you like to cook the most (and best) and how often do you cook it?
I don't know how to cook.
What are your hobbies beside AoE?
Playing Go (a Chinese abstract strategy board game, which is more popular in Taiwan than Chess) and table tennis.
Which languages can you speak and which would you like to learn?
I can speak Mandarin, and I would like to improve my English.
At which time of the day do you like to play and when do you usually go to sleep?
I usually play games during the day. My bedtime isn't fixed, but I hope to go to sleep at around 10 PM.
C. MORE AOE2-RELATED QUESTIONS:
Do you have an AoE idol?
Yo.
What is your favourite civilisation, map and unit?
Sicilians, Arabia, Missionary.
What is your favourite in-game sound?
The original sound of a war elephant.
Have you played any AoE 2 campaigns? If yes, what was your favourite campaign?
Nope.
Who is your favourite and least favourite 1v1 opponent?
Um... I don't have a specific preference.
Who is your favourite team mate for a 2v2?
My father.
Which 10 players do you think are top 10 in 2023 (based on overall skill, both 1v1 and TG)?
TheViper, Hera, Yo, TaToH, Liereyy, Vinchester, ACCM, DauT, Villese, Sitaux.
Who do you think will win Warlords 2?
Yo.
Which 4-5 players would you like to form a team? (can include inactive players)
My current teammates at TAG.
Make a ranking of the 10 best current Taiwanese players based on RM 1v1 skills.
Sora Kuma, Z40, Cloud, Rayz, Youpudding, DemonSheep, DAI, kw, TaeYoon, Albis.
Did you try any of the “Alcatraz” or other micro/quick-walling challenges?
I attempted a speed run in 'Alcatraz' until I saw how TheViper did it.
How do you evaluate your experience in the Blue Carbon Cup? What did you like the most, what did you miss, and/or would like to be added/changed for a 2nd addition?
This has been a very interesting experience. The freedom to pick civilizations is my favorite part, as it allows me to use prepared strategies in every match. I think the tournament is already great as it is.
You were not on the A team in the Nations Cup, but how was the tournament for you and the Taiwanese community? What are your expectations for a next edition? Both for Taiwan and yourself specifically.
The Taiwan C team, which I was part of, consisted of people who already knew each other, and the entire competition process was relaxed and enjoyable. We all hope that Taiwan can achieve better results in the next edition of the tournament.
What kind of tournament would you like to participate in that did not exist ever or not for a long time?
Hidden Cup!
If you had a $100k budget, what kind of tournament would you create? (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4? RM, DM, mixture, which maps…?)
I would like to organize a 1v1 tournament focused on a single map, similar to events like Master of Arena and Master of Socotra.
Thank you for the interview and good luck in your next tournaments!
