WSVG World Championship 2015- Unofficial Write UP |
Here is the write-up for the second part of the winner's bracket, with semifinals and the first final between RiuT and TheViper. Part 1 of the Losers Bracket should be coming soon, and I plan to wrap up the entire write-up before the end of the week. As always, feedback is welcome. Here goes:
RiuT - Yo
2-1
In the Winners Bracket Semifinals, the first game saw Yo facing RiuT, after both players had narrowly defeated their opponents in the quarter-finals. The games were expected to be close between t2o extremely skilled players, and did not disappoint. In line with his general style in the tournament, Yo opted for an aggressive style in the first game of Dry Arabia, aggressively raiding RiuT in an attempt to gain an advantage. However, this time the early aggression did not pay off for the SY player, as RiuT lived through the aggression to gain an economic advantage from the late castle age going forward. With swarms of eagle warriors, Yo faced an enemy he could not defeat, and RiuT won the first game. In Yo's home map of Regicide Fortress, a map that had been home to several of the more entertaining incidents of the early tournament, another king snipe was close to taking place. The strong micro of RiuT allowed him to take early control and pressed onto Yo, managing to force his king out of a tower on the front line, but a moment of low concentration from RiuT allowed Yo to pull the king back. The game seemed to be headed in the direction of RiuT anyhow, but Yo, pushed to brink of destruction, managed to fight back, and put the score at 1-1. In the final game of Rooster, RiuT used his water skills to take early control, and with a strong economic advantage, RiuT won the game by blocking Yo's gold with archers, despite his come back on the water. With a 2-1 victory, RiuT was ready for the final, while Yo had to head for the losers bracket.
TheViper - BacT
2-0
In the other semifinal, the second clash of TyRanT's in the Maldives, this one between TheViper and BacT took place. Viper had been playing slowly up after his early scare against LoveCheng in the Dry Arabia game, and this time he proved why he was the overall favorite for the tournament. Sighting two boars with his eagle warriors in BacT's base, Viper went for the mythological double boar steal. BacT saw it in time to make a re, but instead opted for stopping it with his eagle warrior, but to no avail. Viper pulled in off, and started the game with a massive advantage. BacT made few mistakes, and recovered from his loss pretty impressively, but to no avail. Viper was in top form, and later killed a mangonel form BacT with only four crossbows, and in the end, the gg was incoming after only 28 minutes. Perhaps sensing that his opponent was at his absolute strongest, BacT picked nomad as a home map, in an attempt to have luck on his side, similar to what LoveCheng did. However, Viper was unfazed by this, and took the water to an early advantage, with BacT struggling for food. As the game progressed, Viper slowly turned it more and more to his advantage, and pushed on the land, BacT was forced to call gg, becoming the first to lose in the tournament without winning a single game. Viper however, was ready to face another TyRanT warlord in the Winners Bracket final, where he faced RiuT.
TheViper - RiuT
2-0
The Aztec war in Dry Arabia opened the Winners Bracket final between TheViper and RiuT, and RiuT, having lost recently to Viper in a WSVG Preparation Match, tried to opt for early pressure on Viper to take control. Mangonels and crossbowmen was used the Norwegian 1v1 king under pressure, and seemed to work. However, in the end, the defense of TheViper was too strong for the heavy military investment for RiuT to pay off. The economic damage was not strong enough to severely delay Vipers own plans, and he reached Imperial Age, allowing him to take the crucial elite eagle warrior upgrade first. With Viper having both more upgrades and a stronger economy, his spam of eagle warriors put the pressure on RiuT, soon forcing the gg. RiuT has shown to often rely on his micro skills, and he did so again by picking Rooster as a home map against Viper. However, RiuT seemed to be in problems early on, losing a villager to a boar in dark age due to mismanagement. Despite this, he managed to go closely with Viper and the water, in a game where water macro and micro was pushed to absolute perfection between two players. However, Viper managed to stay a very tiny step ahead of his opponent, and went on win the crucial plays, and take the advantage. The game went in the favor of Viper, and with two 2-0 victories, he was ready for the grand final. RiuT had impressed, but had to face the winner of the Losers Bracket, if he were to hope for a rematch against TheViper.
