Dear friends,
During these times, where many can't advance much with normal life, I want to do some things which I wanted to do for a long time, but never did, one of them is (co-)hosting a tournament.
The „2020 AOElympics“ are an open community tournament, inspired by past AoC Nations Cups and the Olympic Games, played on AOE 2: DE. You will gather medals (gold, silver, bronze) for your nation in many ways. It will give the opportunity for everyone to participate, independent of your skill level.
Preliminary time schedule
- Team registration: 2020-05-03 – 2020-07-18 (20:00 GMT): Here. A player registered after 2020-06-12 can't participate in a 1v1 or 2v2 bracket, only in the 4v4 brackets.
- 1v1 and 2v2 Bracket sign-up: 2020-05-09 - 2020-06-09 (20:00 GMT): Here - look for the topic with the Bracket name you want to sign up for.
- Redistribution Day 1: 2020-06-09 20:00 GMT - 2020-06-10 20:00 GMT
- Redistribution Day 2: 2020-06-10 20:00 GMT - 2020-06-11 20:00 GMT
- Planned start of first round of first brackets: 2020-06-15
- 4v4 Bracket sign-up: 2020: 2020-05-09 - 2020-07-19 (20:00 GMT): Here - look for the topic with the Bracket name you want to sign up for.
- End: Will depend on sign-up numbers but estimated to be 10-15 weeks after the start.
Prize Pool: Currently $7000 (2000 by Anonymous, 5000 by PinzTec). More info here.
Open streaming: The entire event offers open streaming. POV streaming is allowed. A stream/spectator delay is recommended, but not enforced.
Organisation:
I will organise it together with a team including @robo @ImRiver, @nimanoe, @Collllin, @Henkdesupernerd, @LidaKor, @Michaerbse and @RogganWololo, but I am mainly responsible the tournament idea and rules and settings. @Chrazini and @TheMadCADer are involved in the updating and finalisation of the maps/map pack. Let me know if you want to contribute in any way, for example with graphics or a promotional video which is easy to spread outside of AOEZone.
As all of us are only spending limited time on this event, so I decided to go for a big team trying to offer a huge national team spectacle.
Summary:
Players gather medals for their country. There will be no A, B, C etc. teams. You just play for your country, so you can sign up for your country with 1 or 30 or more players.
The tournamentl consists of many small brackets and each bracket will only be 1 map. E. g., Arabia 1v1 bracket, Arena 2v2 bracket or Black Forest 4v4 bracket. Each player can only play in a certain amount of brackets, and only one player/team from each nation in each bracket.
As many different maps will be included, in case you don't like one map or only like one map, that is no problem, because it is planned to include more than 40 1-map brackets and in the end, scores will be added up.
As only one participant/team (in case of 2v2 and 4v4) from one nation can participate in 1 bracket and one player is limited to a certain amount of bracket participations, e. g.
All maps will be random maps. If we wanted to treat Death Match and custom scenario modes in an equally fair way, it would extend the tournament too much.
Each bracket will be rather short (minimum 8 players/teams to launch it, Bo3 until Ro8 and then Bo5), you can win a gold, silver or bronze medal.
The medal ranking will be updated constantly. So we will open 1 registration topic for the teams and then after that is closed, individual sign-up topics for the brackets and if enough players are signed up for a specific bracket, it will take place.
A high level of fairness, responsibility and flexibility on the players' side is desired. You can sign up for multiple brackets, but might have to play 3 or even 4 matches in one week then. There could be 16 1v1 brackets, 16 2v2 brackets and 16 4v4 brackets, but then 8 1v1 brackets would run at the same time. So you have to decide how many games you can play per week and which maps suit you best. Or is one of your team mates better on that map? You have to communicate within your national team about that too.
