Disclaimer:
I'm new to these forums and lack a bit of info in terms of logistics, so some of the following accusations may not be entirely fair... though it is clear to me that ECL could have been run better in a few ways. Here are a few of my thoughts:
1.The website needs to be sorted out. It currently has the following issues:
-When I first went to the website, google told me that it wasn't secure and I shouldn't continue to the site. Although this is quite funny, it's really not good!
-The standings need to be updated immediately after the results are known to the public (regardless of whether or not the ECL channel has shown the games themselves).
-The live game times need to be posted on the ECL website, as soon as the times are confirmed (even if this is as close as a day before the game is played).
The ECL website NEEDS to have up to date info on their own competition if they are to be taken seriously. Having to find info on their tournament through other websites is not ideal. It'd be very easy to hire a design/comp student/grad for next to nothing (or literally nothing) to do this job.
2. Live casts. I get that there are big issues with this, and it has already been discussed... so my points here may not be entirely reasonable, though I'm going to voice them anyway.
-We need live casts of all the games on the official channel. If this means having to scout out young casting talent to cast at the more obscure times, so be it. These casts need be be live and all on one channel if AoE2 wants to really turn heads as an esport. Initially the viewer numbers might not be so flash... but with a stable and professional format, those numbers would surely grow.
-VODs need to be uploaded ASAP. Potentially this could just be the live cast, or an edited version shortly after the cast ends. You could possibly upload a full length VOD immediately, and release the edited version beside it a day later.
-Live cast and VODs should be embedded in the website.
