War is Coming will soon be coming to a close, but until then, there are some placement matches to look forward to, as well as the 1v1 round of the Grand Finals between the Legends and the Warlords. Now that the Round Robin has come to a close, it's time to start thinking about which were the best games of the stage!
Quoting from the rules:
Only one game will be chosen from each group, but I included below a synopsis of a total of six of the best games. Thanks to pumukel for already having all the casts compiled
Group 1
Nadya's Boys vs TyRanT Legends G1 Wic Map Pack @ Nomad
A Wonder was Destroyed!
Zuppi, Lojza, 8th Wonder, Pike vs Viper, Jordan, kkab, DauT
Watch Cast
Nomad often makes for messy and entertaining games, and this match between TyRanT Legends and Nadya's Boys was no exception. The Legends found themselves in some very difficult situations, and if it were not for JorDan's great teamwork, it could have been an early GG for both Viper and DauT. However, Jordan's early help allowed the opposing Mongols player, Zuppi, to get a considerable economy lead. Perhaps the best part of the game was watching DauT take out 8th Wonder, even as Wonder was receiving far more sling than DauT was. The game would be decided on whether or not JorDan could hold long enough versus Zuppi while DauT pushed through the opposing Mayans player into the Vikings.
SY vs TyRanT Legends G8 Rooster
1. Pick Mayans 2. Sling Mayans 3. ??? 4. Profit
missxue, Mr_Yo, Paladin, LoveCheng vs Viper, Jordan, kkab, DauT
Watch Cast
The matches between the reigning Nations Cup Champs and the Legends were definitely the most hyped & awaited of all of WIC, and they did not disappoint. In my opinion, Rooster was the best of the set. SY used the arguably superior strategy, a full sling to the Mayans player, Paladin (as we have seen used with much success since then.) However, DauT played phenomenally and defended against Paladin with only a handful of onagers and trebs, buying time for JorDan to get a fully upgraded Mongol army. This game was filled with plenty of action even far before Imperial, with landings by DauT against Paladin and by Lovecheng against kkab.
SY vs Nadya's Boys G7 Arabia
Paladin & Mayans: A Love Story
LoveCheng, Mr_yo, Paladin, Abu vs Zuppi, Lojza, mentalist, 8th Wonder
Watch Cast
Both teams were faced with having a Mayans pocket and SY demonstrated that a knight & plumed archer combo is far superior to a plumed & crossbow combo. SY played very aggressively, with forward castles, rams, and mangonels, taking advantage of their superior unit combinations.
Group 2
KGB vs poZ G8 Rooster
[linethru]HCCC[/linethru]
Hasan, Ra, St4rk, Goku vs Ding, bvirus, ratS, kyo
Watch Cast
Down 4-3, poZ was tasked with winning this 8th point in order to make it the final, 9th game vs KGB. Strangely enough, the gameplay of the Vikings player on both teams was actually really important in the scope of this match. Goku had Vikings for KGB and ratS for poZ. Let's just say that Coccolino would be very disappointed in the way that Goku played... (he didn't even have a TC for almost half of this 1 hour 12 minute game.) Because of this, ratS was able to sling some extra resources when taking water control while Goku was receiving sling in order to take the water.
L_Clan vs KGB G1 Wic Map Pack @ Reservoir
A Proper Vengeance
dogao, Wrath, FeAge, miguel vs Goku, Alive, Hasan, Ra
Watch Cast
It was the first game of the L_Clan - KGB rematch and L_Clan looked determined not to replicate the 1-4 they suffered in their prior engagement, even replacing Chris with Wrath to probably improve their teamwork... and it had the desired effect. KGB decided to sling a bit to Goku, playing as Mongols, which put him far ahead of FeAge, also playing as Mongols. However, most of the subsequent sling went to Alive, as Mayans, who was wholly unable to do any damage with the huge amounts of resources he was receiving. dogao played very well and managed to hold his team together while FeAge researched ballistics
L_Clan vs TyRanT Warlords G5 Decentring
Vem Monstro #2
Chris, miguel, dogao, FeAge vs BacT, slam, RiuT, Fire
Watch Cast
Decentring is a map that has a lot of strategy variations and civ combinations. It seems that it's never safe when you are chopping wood with just a lumber camp, even if you did wall! Sneaks and forwards are very hard to detect on this map. Chris exploited this and disrupted the Warlords economy with archers, managing to damage Fire, RiuT, and BacT. This paid off in the long run, as although the Warlords won water control, dogao managed to boom back on 5 TCs and go on the offensive with paladins and rams. o monstro chegou....
