Ok, guys, I gave a little information about myself in one of the threads around here but for the purpose of some background story...., for the majority,
My son Eon and I used to play AOE way back since the first game, up the chain of latest editions that were sold on packaged CD.
Over the years as Windows produced newer versions, it became harder to play a W98 game so we just quit playing.
About a year ago, my son comes visit and tells me that I can pay for HD version of game at Steam and play 1 vs Ai still or 1 vs XX online. So, we both downloaded the base game + all the new civs and began playing again, mainly vs. AI to learn all the new civs and nuances of the new game and an occasional game with my son and two of his friends.
All of this lead us to stumble upon the youtube streamer's communities.
I had long since cut cable/satellite TV and had the Twitch app already on my Roku internet TV streaming device so I added some caster's channels (Daut, Viper, Memb, Nilli, Killer_B) and began getting hooked again on the game.
Kind of giving my age away by the description above, but I am 52 years old and all of my adult life has had to do with mechanical/technical automotive and machinery.
I am/was an automatic transmission specialist by trade but at an age too early to retire, I took a government job supervising a department that repairs and maintains a fleet of municipal machinery and vehicles ranging from Police units, Fire trucks, to pumps, generators and backhoes.
I bought my first Porsche, a 944S around the age of 25 and have been an owner and involved with Porsche community since then.
Around the time we gave up AOE originally, both my son and I took an interest in competitively road racing our cars. We build our entire cars ourselves from a bare shell. Graphical paint schemes and body, transmission/engine, roll cages and all safety eq., etc., etc., etc.
We were starting work on a Porsche 968 around the time we got back into AOE, a complete refresh of a car that had a previous racing life and needed a lot of attention.
As we drew nearer completion of a year long restore, we became closer with Memb and all the members (the loberboys) at MembTv from watching all the tournaments so we decided to add some MembTv/Boa hype to the car's first outing in competition at New Orleans Motorsports Park this weekend is the N. American Porsche Club Racing event.
My son Eon will be piloting this 1993 Porsche 968 that we (along with friend "The Kidd Cannon") built in SP3 class which includes the Porsche 968 and all Porsche 944 variants including the 944 Turbo.
So...., here it is
That's my son wiring up data logging hardware called 'Traqmate'.
Game players will notice even the car # is a play on game chat lingo, 111.
Some guy signed up before us with #11 and 1st signed gets preference so we had to #111.
Here he is last weekend doing a final test on suspension setup and testing the new transmission I had just finish. We had a high g force right hand turn fuel starvation problem that we had to remedy to get it ready for this weekend's race.
Properly corner balancing the car for optimum handling, the car must be placed on four scales, one at each wheel with driver in car to fine tune the weight that each corner's shock/spring is carrying. Shocks have ride height, compression and rebound adjustability + adjustable sway bars, etc. It's complicated and knowledge in this aspect can separate one car from the others.
That said, my son Eon is a top 3 driver in his specific class and finished 2nd in all of N. America in a similar car we own a few years ago.
More of the BOA hype.
A nod to admin Swissboyy on the rear and the 'GG" tombstone from Memb's chat.
Other competitors will not even be aware that this means, when my son passes them and moves back over in front, their view of car's rear will say "good game, game over".....11.
BOA hype front. We were still placing the vinyl class designation (SP3) and the car #, etc so the car shows #11 here is a shot of the MembTv Bull and MembTv logo on front. Kindo of wished it to be larger but my daughter made the graphics and her machine was limited to this size maximum.
Mandated tow recovery/safety hook in event you need to be retrieved by a tow vehicle.
Closer shot of membTv logos above the factory Porsche crest.
That's it for now. Car is in route to race track and we will be updating at Memb's discord general section and maybe here as well.
Along with this attempt to draw some attention to the AOE community through Battle of Africa, I made a personal donation to the prize pool and my son Eon (Twitch chat nine44s) and I donated some prizes that Memb is still configuring the method of how these can be given away on his channel. Up for grabs is a Razer mouse pad, A Razer Death Adder (silver) optical gaming mouse and a Kingston V300 240GB SSD.
