Who made it thus far?
These are the standing before the first final games today
As most will see on this pic, there havent been many upsets so far in this tournament as far as the top 8 go, all top 7 seeds have made it through. Biggest upset in terms of performance in comparison to their seed number is miguel, who came in at seed number 14 and beat seed number 8 TaToH in the looser bracket in an outstanding 4-3 performance.
The Loserbracket: A fight for life
Rubenstock vs Leash
Leash has gotten back into shape quite quickly from what I can tell. He beat Praxes and Dkc_Incredibles (#10 and #12) in a quite convincing fashion and gave True on the way to the semifinals by losing 2-4 a good run for his money.
Rubenstock has had quite a similar way, getting beat by TheCode in the Quarterfinals and demoralizing Nicov on his way to the top 8 by beating him 4-1 and using market to its fullest psychological potential.
This match is definitely a very exciting one, as we will most likely see a clash of market and strategy against the macro monster that is Leash. Depending on the civ and map it could go quickly in either favor or be a very long drawn out game. Anyway we are in for an exciting series.
Daywalker vs miguel
Daywalker has only very narrowly (and with some bad luck) missed out on the seminfinals by losing 4-3 to Nili. A convincing 4-0 performance vs Praxes earned him the spot in the Top 8 and I am certain that he is not done yet.
miguel is the player when it comes to DM tournaments. Very often outperforming the expectations and always someone you have to look out for. Who knows how far he will go now?
Top 4 seed vs the dark horse and always underrated player of the tournament. Daywalker has to be on his toes not to drop out before Saturday. The winner of this duel will have to face QuEnDi_True, which they hopefully be fully warmed up for after this series.
The Top 3 (+Nili <3)
The top 3 seeds have close to flawlessly made it through this tournament only taking out each other in the case of TheCode vs True, with Nili sneaking in a top favourite position. But lets go through it one by one, starting with the current DM 1v1 ratings, which reflect the standings quite well.
#1: TheViper: Only dropping two maps the whole tournament Viper has made it through the tournament rather flawlessly and for sure isnt planning to be stopped by TheCode on the way to the top. Im curious to see how he will perform in this upcoming match, since he himself said, that market be might one of his weak points and TheCode being very precise in his strategical play and market use. Furthermore didnt seem to be shaken or challenged by much so far, I hope TheCode can get him to sweat a bit.
#2: TheCode: Initially seed #3 Orkut has made his way to the top 2 contenders in a very convincing fashion only dropping one map to the DWMC winner True. From what ive seen so far Orkut can really challenge Viper on his way to the win, I especially think that his playstyle might play very well into Vipers weaknesses, who might be caught off guard quite quickly if he is not on his toes at all times.
#3 True: First and foremost Im biased as hell when it comes to Kellan. Last DMWC True lost to Jidba in the Winnerbracket initially and had to drop to the Loserbracket. This seemed to have given him the motivational boost to come back even stronger afterwards to finally win the whole thing. The streak up above came right after losing to TheCode in the semifinals of WB. So who knows, he might pull off a similar thing this time, but it certainly wont be easy.
#4 Nili: Nili making it to the top 4, especially considering his lack of training and preparation in comparison to others, was not really expected by me but also doesnt come as a huge surprise. He has proven his skills quite convincingly vs Daywalker and even took a map from Viper, while looking a bit shaky especially at the start in the rest of the games. Vs either Rubenstock or Leash he will have to give it his all again, but can definitely stay in the top 4 or even be able to threaten the top 3 if he can clean up his game a bit. (He will most likely be more busy casting though, so catch him @ https://www.twitch.tv/nili_aoe)
Conclusion + bold predictions:
We are definitely in for some great games for today and the upcoming weekend. Im going out there and say that TheCode will beat Viper in the Winner Bracket and force him down the path of the Loser Bracket and will most likely face him again in the Grand Final, if True cant get to his peak performance by then. Behind those three its going to be a massacre for the remaining places with Nili being on the top so far.
