Thats a bit of a misleading oversimplification.tl;dw: he's worried the distraction of AoE4 will compromise the hype of the event
The disruption caused by AoE4 is the principal reason HC5 is not happening in the near future since the supposedly non-AoE4 factors you list would not be a sufficient impediment to staging the event in the absence of AoE4 unless the absence of AoE4 meant Microsoft had no interest in trying to grow AoE2 esports. I could have phrased my tl;dw to express this logic more clearly and should have indicated it was meant to be a quick distillation of the situation rather than a comprehensive list of the specific factors in T90's decisionmaking calculus so I will apologize for that.Thats a bit of a misleading oversimplification.
T90 lists many reasons why he doesn't want to host HC5 right now, including the fact that he is still 'new' to Facebook Gaming and might struggle to reach the goals he would want for his event, how he believes there has been an over saturation of tournaments & showmatches the past years leading to player burn out, and some players not committing fully to AoE2 (which includes Hera on League of Legends), not just AoE4.
Trying to portray that as just being AoE4s fault is disingenuous and really shows your biases. Imho a too long didnt read/watch should accurately reflect the content and help people, not be an attempt to push your own agenda.
Move to FB and the viewership seems like a bigger impediment. Hidden Cup, by it's design, isn't relaint on player names as much. Yes thats what he said basically. I get it, would feel the same as he does. Don’t want to host an anticlimactic tournament. But what he said is also the opposite of helping/working for the community. What I get from the interview regarding HC5, is that indeed Tristan fears it won't be as successful as the previous iterations (viewers numbers, mainly, linked to the activity of the pros players), and eventually it ends up as a "regular" AOE2 tournament. He wants HC5 to be the best tournament, not one comparable to KoTD. Maybe it's not his intention, but it feels like his ego would get hurt if he doesn't manage to be above everyone else...
you're in aoezone man, don't expect too muchGet it together guys.
You can always bet on the people who have never done anything to progress or for the community trying to be as destructive/negative as possibleThis forum really manages to always spin anything into the most negative possible, right?
Could you elaborate on this, I have no clue what you're talking about 11I saw how they treated memb and it was clear that he was devastated, so didn't seem at all like they acted with any ounce of respect.
This is one thread I remember that touched on the topic: https://www.aoezone.net/threads/what-do-you-think-of-streamers-rerunning-old-vods.177992Could you elaborate on this, I have no clue what you're talking about 11
Anywhere I can read a drama thread or did memb talk about it in his interview ( not watched all of it yet )
Aside from 1 comment, I did not find any of the other comments too negative or too critical. There was a discussion on why some people think that HC5 doesn't/wouldn't make sense right away. Those viewpoints maybe right or wrong but they were not personal. This forum really manages to always spin anything into the most negative possible, right?
T90 always had a preference for the more gimmicky sides of AoE, this year already -hosted the wandering warrior's cup, as one of the few major events that included a "silver-league" for lower level players as well, and hosted the regicide rumble, another strongly community focussed event.
Both those events actually are pretty much in line with many pro players turning away from AoE2, so are supporting that his stated reasons are genuine.
Now, he does not want to host his flag ship event, because he feels that it would be a let down compared to previous iterations, and everyone is crying again, that he isn't doing enough for the community, when all he is doing is reading the current situation correctly?
Get it together guys.
I think your analysis of the current climate of our scene is spot on; it's simply not ripe for a huge HC5 event, and if it was hosted now it'd fall short of previous iterations. I watched the whole thing and I love your candor, and the fact you never pimp out your followers for sponsorship deals and ads.I’m not sure if some of you guys didn’t listen to me speak before commenting or if you chose to exclude what I said to fit your own narratives….
I did not say I would not host a Hidden Cup this year nor did I say not on FB. I said I will not be hosting a Hidden Cup right now & explained the factors as to why. I also explained at length how uneasy it feels organizing these days so even if I had a strong idea of what I wanted, I wouldn’t say publicly until I had it confirmed.
I also said in the podcast that it is my goal to bring in prizepools that match what I personally brought to the game in 2021. This may be with or without MS’s full support, we’ll just have to see. Anyone implying I want to move to FB & not work hard for the game and our players just doesn’t listen to what I say, pay attention to my content, or respect what I’ve done thus far.
Prior to October of 2021 we were at a point where not only a few pros could consider full time, but even a few dozen. This uneasiness around tournaments was coming whether I left Twitch or not, and combining that with Twitch’s changes to sub pricing, many across AoE2 have lost important revenue at the same time.
So if I sit here & tell you I want to do something about it & keep AoE2 going strong, I mean it. So maybe try to take me at my word & be hopeful instead of finding reasons to second guess everything I’ve said lol.

Now I get it, the $2 per hour is not a salary but some sort of annuity or dividend etc.!If you are still on MS payroll
