Hi all,
I'm suggesting an idea for fixing the ranked ladder. This idea is predicated on community support and those who are above and beyond my means to take it and fully implement, adjusting as they see fit. This proposed idea tries to,
1. Deter smurfing on the ranked ladder.
2. Increase activity on the ranked ladder in a sustained, consistent manner.
3. Encourage the whole community in participation, regardless of skill.
The idea is to create a point tally system that is based on games played on the ranked ladder. This point system will be used for an annual championship event that draws participants from this system, rewarding players for participating in it. As an example, it seems there's a WC event that's been done a few times, with its next edition on the near horizon. Something like that, for reference. The point system would work like this.
1. Every game played on the rank ladder is worth 1 point.
2. A win results in a bonus point.
3. Players who are above a specific rating gain automatic bonus points daily (example, 1500+ 1 pt/day, 1600+ 2 pt/day, ect).
4. Daily points are capped at a certain point (such as 50, for example). This deters abusing the system by resigning many games in a row for points, or binge playing to quickly accumulate points rather than sustained accumulation of points over a long period of time.
5. The top X many players by the end of the year/playing period will be invited to this theoretical annual championship event based on the points accumulated in this system.
6. The top 10 players at the end of the playing period will be awarded a cash prize (lets say $100 each for example, so regardless of skill high participation is rewarded even if they won't qualify for prize in the championship event).
This system would deter smurfing, as playing on different accounts loses point accumulation totals. It would encourage active participation by all players, as regardless of skill, any player could accumulate many points over time and win a spot in the big tournament and possibly an immediate cash prize if place in the top 10. It would also give incentive to increase your rating and skills by giving automatic bonus points daily and ensure top players have good chances to make the big event, preventing an over-all loss of skill for the big event while still encouraging active participation by the top players so they don't lose a spot in the big event.
The main requirements for this system would be a way to track this point tally system and also organizing a big event each year as the end goal reward for this system, likely necessitating a lot of community support financially and otherwise. Additionally, A place like Aoezone seems to have already have a username tracking system that keeps track of players rank/rating on some continuing basis. It's possible that additional coding to include this point tally system could be implemented off of that, with coding generating daily points for users who have applicable rating benchmarks, adding an extra point each game played that results in a players rating/rank rising (i.e. a win) and cease adding points after the cap has been reached (such as 50) each day. This would automate this system and reduce the over-all workload for it. I believe a system like this could greatly help the community over-all and specifically the ranked ladder for the good.
Implementing such a system would require the community support, a website such as aoezone, and those in the community who have the ability to organize and spearhead it. But I believe it is absolutely doable and hope those more knowledgeable and involved in the community could take this idea, or as inspiration for a better idea, and put it into action. Thanks for reading.
