You probaly rightWatching twitch is fun but if you feel down about missing a stream it might be good for your life to step away from it for a while.
Good point bro.You know everyone is complaining about the game shrinking, but it's not the worst thing in the world. I loved when the community was a bit smaller and more familiar, sure we didn't always have a big stream going on, but the game never died. dunno why people forgot about that so quickly, who tf cares which game you prefer.
What a stupid and divisive comment. Why are you dividing AOE2 and AOE4 community? if anything, it should be a "RTS community". We are already the minority in the gaming world. It hurts but this is the cleansing ritual AoE2 has to go through every 10 years. Be patient. We'll come out on top eventually.
Yeah it's definitely because you haven't played it enough or the level of your playing isn't close to average yet.AoE4 is fun, but always so long games compared to aoe2 . But I've only played about fifteen aoe4 games. It feels slower paced than aoe2 to me. Perhaps that's partly because of the micro being very easy on aoe4. There is not as much challenge for micro in terms of playing speed.
I do like both games quite a bit. But aoe4 feels very much like a "chill and build army" game while aoe2 has more intricate moves. Aoe2 definitely has more staying power for me
Edit: a bit more on "topic": I think aoe4 is a huge boost to rts and to aoe2. Soon enough, the aoe2 scene will get new faces and competition thanks to aoe4 popularity, and aoe4 will remain a nice "farming simulator" chill game.
Sure you age up faster in aoe4, but when do actual fights start? I'd say on open maps they start sooner in aoe2. How about overall game length? Probably aoe2 wins again, at least based on the length of the aoe4 tournament games I've forced myself to sit through. So I don't buy the "age 4 is faster" thing.Objectively, AOE4 is a faster paced game.
I am at rank 1291 ( Elo 1368) which I would guess is above average. To be sure I have only tried one civ so far but English has basically two micro things: spike ability for longbows and fire / move / fire. I definitely hope to discover some more.Yeah it's definitely because you haven't played it enough or the level of your playing isn't close to average yet.
Objectively, AOE4 is a faster paced game. Not better, faster. Coming from SC2 background, even AOE2 doesn't have much micro aspect. Yes there's the xbow micro, mango micro, but compared to sc2, it isn't much. There's much more emphasis on macro. AOE4 is kind of in between, though I do agree that purely in terms of micro aspect, AOE4 doesn't have much. AOE2 is one of the slowest RTS games (this doesn't mean it's a worse RTS. I love AOE2). The reason you feel that it's a "chill and build army" is because you are probably versing people who are new to the game, or even to RTS in general.
If a AAA priced RTS game is missing basic features, still has many bugs which were reported during beta and has convoluted design choices then it's an actually inferior and unfinished game.Try them out. If you don't like it, sure, but just respect that it's a DIFFERENT game, NOT an inferior game.
Please note that when I say it's faster, I don't mean it's better. I love both games.Sure you age up faster in aoe4, but when do actual fights start? I'd say on open maps they start sooner in aoe2. Bugs and UI issues I definitely agree. But the game itself, the design of how the game is played, is very fun and unique. Just because something isn't AOE2, it doesn't mean it sucks.. just because you love AOE2, doesn't mean you have to hate on other RTS games. If a AAA priced RTS game is missing basic features, still has many bugs which were reported during beta and has convoluted design choices then it's an actually inferior and unfinished game.

It's not a competition between the RTS games, well it shouldn't be. Btw AOE2 was NEVER the top RTS game in the first place for a long time (Broodwar and SC2 was, and arguably WC3). Stop living in a small bubble and stop having stereotypes against certain games just because it is something new. Try them out. If you don't like it, sure, but just respect that it's a DIFFERENT game, NOT an inferior game.
I personally love both AOE2 and AOE4. Recently I've only been playing AOE4 because I love learning a new game. AOE2 will always be the best RTS with team games in my opinion, but AOE4's game design has been very interesting, and dare I say, better than aoe2. In terms of pace, if you consider SC2 as the fastest paced RTS, AOE2 will be on the slowest end (yes, slower than WC3), but I feel AOE4 is on the middle ground, which I'm really enjoying.
Yeah, so stop dividing the RTS community and encouraging this division. Respect all RTS, try them out!
Freedom of speech argument is always interesting right. To what extent? should you still have freedom of speech when it is something that can lead to division, or when it can imply how something that certain group of people love/enjoy etc is not as good as they are thinking?I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, seems like you just want a vent. There is no need for that level of disrespect, no matter the frustration you are feeling.
I also think by "come out on top"… the author means on top relative to AoE4, not all RTS games.
I would argue that your commentary is relatively divisive. Out right telling someone their opinion is stupid does not exactly win people to your cause. I do agree that bashing AoE4 is pointless... But, if someone has an opinion on it, and wants to express it, fine. Ultimately, people will make up their own minds.Freedom of speech argument is always interesting right. I know that this website is a AOE2 focussed website (which I'm part of, I love AOE2!!) so I guess all these comments are expected. Very biased. Sorry had to try. It's really frustrating and sickening to see people hate commenting, especially on AOE4 YouTubers who were formerly AOE2 mains. I wish people can see Beastyqt's rant on the Pylon show lol it's hilarious, at the same time I couldn't agree more.
Can we not just enjoy the games that we love without hating on the other?
Hmm, I guess there are few things, but main thing is the "feel" as you play more. I think the BEST thing to say to "prove" this is for me to say, just try the game out for quite some time! but yeah:You keep talking vaguely about pacing without really backing it up. Can you specifically say how aoe4 is the faster game?
Isn't that similar to saying, if someone says "I want to punch/kill/cause harm to someone", and I say you shouldn't do that, or even say "that's stupid", I'm also being divisive or abusive?I would argue that your commentary is relatively divisive. I also don't even think the authors comment was even antagonistic. Ya, they prefer AoE2 .. and they think AoE2 will have more staying power. What's so bad about that? .. .there has been plenty worse said. At the end of the day ... They are both just computer games, you can either love em or hate them. Play either, play both .... I am not even sure why there has to be such a massive issue at all.
Yeap this kind of comments.. omg.. not sure if trollingStand strong my brothers. AoE2 will rise again.
How many games have you actually played though especially after the meta has settled? (still not settled and will be a while, but at least after Genesis) At a high level, you can't really stone wall that easily unless maps are designed to be that way (just like BF or Arena in AOE2), tanky siege only applies to Chinese and the fact that siege can take out buildings much faster makes the pace much faster late game too. I've reached 2k on AOE2, and floating around top 150~300 in AOE4. So I think I have quite a unbiased opinion about this as I love both games.I dont find aoe4 being faster tbh. Its early game might be faster yes, theres faster feudal time / feudal rams (it got nerfed along with the TC target fire buff tho) / trushing in dark age / etc, but the pace gets much slower from mid game onwards. Stone walls / tanky siege just drag out the game horrendously, especially on campy choky maps.
EDIT: btw TGs are even worse, and BF is awful.
1v1s? TGs I can't really comment on because there's SO MUCH to be figured out and no high level players play it.Hovering between 13/14+, 500+ games played.
