The King of the Desert idea started with @swissboyy 3 years ago, we were motivated with the new civilizations, and for that time i had in my channel (i still have) some really enthusiastic viewers, so all together decided to put KOTD1 with over 3.5k or something like that and then mr @TheViper also helped with a donation stream to go over 4k prize.
That edition was a total success i can´t forget that game Mongols vs Incas in the grand final, and well that 5-4 epic for the 1st edition, will never forget.
Then we moved and made KOTD2, we added again over 5k, this time from my own pocket (money saved during KOTD1), and for the 1st time i had microsoft helping me with the sponsor, and with the crazy Mattsalsa we made around a 16.000 event, 15.800 if i remember correct, that edition was great also, and big success, still was in the old aoc version, and gotta admit at the end i wasn´t happy 100% because the civ restrictions didn´t work as i intended.
This 2020 started thought for me, for several things that I prefer to not remember but then we could host BOA2, for me till that moment it was probably the best tournament hosted. Since @Chrazini joined me to work together I think the level of the tournaments just improved. My man we argue sometimes but it is a joy to work together amigo. Then out of nowhere appear a chinese guy posting in aoezone, and that is when we discover Pinztec that together with Microsoft let us get a 50.000$ event. That kind of event is something I could never imagine, because as most of you know, my channel is just a normal medium channel that only shines during tournaments. Thas why Im very proud to be able to host these events.
KOTD3 in my opinion has been really huge for me and the community because we got 64 players, with really incredible gameplay since the very beginning. Usually in the 1st round you never see many interesting series and from round 1, we already had some upsets. I remember with a smile how @GoKuZiTo call me membi in the interview and was so happy to advance to Round 2. Ofc we can´t forget Chart or the crazy gameplay from straydog and especially lyx and Hoang. There were also some other great moments in the early rounds.
Then we had GSL format for the group Stages. I think it worked overall quite well. There were some repeated matches but I never minded at all. With the experience gained and taking in consideration the feedback, definitly we can improve in the future, better said, we will improve.
During the groups we all noticed also big surprises that changed the "supposed quarterfinal brackets". As a host you would want to have the most known and popular players in the semis right? So do I yes. But players have to gain the right to be there, organisers set the stage and its players who perform. Honestly i wanted DauT to advance, no shame, i tell it here, i was sad when daut lost, who wasn`t right? but when you saw Villese shaking in the camera interview, you only can feel happy for him and here is when we notice how much each players invests and how special is our community.
Most of the players were very open and great for the previous interviews. I point this out now, because it come to my mind, it created a great atmosphere and I think people felt closer to them, some of them with less following than the most popular streamers, got definitly alot more fans and people chearing for them.
Quarterfinals were insane, again I was shocked with viper vs Yo. i was happy for Yo because i love him and he always helped me alot, but not gonna lie, i never expected it, and since im like MrYo said in his interview a bit of a ViperFan, i was very sad. but im sure the Snake will come back very strong in the future, always be careful with him.
Then Hera vs Liereyy was brutal series for sure and could have gone either way. As I mentioned before, I was sad for DauT. His interview was the best, we were talking like over 1 hour about everything and he was so motivated, more than you can imagine, loved to see him that motivated, next time is Your time, LORD.
Last but not worst, MbL, what a performance. People might say, him include got a "easier" path, well you won vs Mr.Yo. So You earned it, and then came domination against dogao with a super crazy and smart gameplay. Being 0-1 in the semis you reached the grand final like a beast.
Then we recap the 2nd semifinal, what the real hell was that semifinal, there is 2 ways to see a match, who make the less mistakes or who play the best, and those series were definitly really top level play. Of cource with open map and Arabia there are always some mistakes, but it was full action all over. I will never forget that last decider game, out of this world. Like Dave said during the casting: Khmer vs Sarracens for a decider match, who would imagine that before DE appear.
And well the Grand Finals were a very top game level play, in my pov both played are very strong. I dont think mbl did big mistakes but that day THE KID made one of his best performances in any event. Most of the games very clean, I think he fixed some mistakes like getting relics and mining stone much earlier than previous editions. There is a much bigger possible analysis but those were details he never paid much of attention to before. Anyway congrats to all players for their performance and of cource to the new KING OF THE DESERT.
Then for me, this tournament has been so important, because I had to make happy not only my community, also 2 sponsors, as far as I know they are super happy. Microsoft already confirmed and congratulate for a great event. Pinztec already increased the prize of the next tournament what was supposed to be 20k event. Guys read now, we have a 50.000$ for 2021 guaranteed by Pinztec!!!!!! I am so happy guys, so so happy.
Won´t avoid that the tournament still can be improved. As i said before, we will do it. I am sorry for the droppped connection in the last semifinal. This was definitly my worst moment since I stream 7 years ago. I restarted router 3 times, upstairs and downstairs all the time, and then when I was going to tell them they can keep going thanks God the connection came back. I knew it wasn´t ideal situation but honestly the least we deserved is a bit of patience. Esp when the event is open streaming what is very difficult to make worth for a channel like mine. Anyway for the Grand Final I had already a backup streamer prepared. This option will be there from now on, to avoid any issue in the future.
For future events we only can promise we will try our best and will try to make better than the previous, hope we can do KOTD4 even better despite I think with KOTD3 we raised the bar a lot already.
Dont want to finish without special mention to the sponsors again, Microsoft and Pinztec, to everyone who tuned in. Thanks so much to the players because THE LIVE games were as smooth as ever. Thanks also for being patient in some moments, and sorry guys but i want to say thanks so much to all my viewers and community but specially to @Rorarimbo @NkoDragas muss and @Chrazini those 4 guys made this tournament as possible as me, If no more, it is so fun to work together. Also thanks for all the co-casters that participate at some point with me. I have to make special mention to 2 of them because for me casting with a legend like @_IamChris is insane and then @Moonfaller that was the surprise of the tournament, but also because sadly one of the co-casters had problems and could not join me with me, and Moonfaller stayed with me 10-11 hours the longest stream we had.
Guys i could say alot more things, but dont want to bore you, WE LOVE THIS GAME, see you in next MembTV event.
Stay Tunis.
