Re: New Expansion (updated 30 Oct: Video added)
To sum up Cysion's prose. You shouldnt be afraid of changes in life. If there wasnt any change we still would be AoC Units ourselves, and not playing Aoc here today. But the latter is more pleasant I think.Well, we could indeed just leave the game as it is, and miss the golden chance to revive the game. What we have now is a great gem from the past. A nice sapphire, shiny blue and here and there a little scratch from being passed around through the hands of giants. A sapphire whose fire is kept alive by a small community of devoted people. Spending night after night to either enjoying the warm glow of the sapphire or either protect it against dangerous intruders trying to damage it. And yes, that's all of us, we all enjoy the game and the joy it brings and some members in our little community take more work on them by bracing it for the future. But we must also not be blinded. We may guard our treasure too much. We must allow other people to enjoy its blissful aura too. But nowadays, the road is rough and unknown to most travellers. Not many people get to see the sapphire anymore, and the small sapphire is slowly being surrounded by less and less people. The guardians of the precious jewel are growing older and are less cautious. They are still the unchallenged kings, but age is merciless and brutal to all.Well, the idea and all about the expansion is great. I think adding a new civ would be really fun, but after some thinking, changing current things will imo turn out negative.
Balancing a game should be done the first year of the release, not after 10 years where players have gotten used to everything. I think starting changing stats, techs, civ bonuses and all will split/hurt the community. Is it going to be forced upon them? Everyone likes the game as it is, but with the expansion being either forced upon them or only used by some it will split the community or maybe even make people not like it as much as before because everything they have been used to the last 10 years will not be the same.
I still applaud the idea, addition of 2-3 new civs and the urge to improve the game still, but changing current things after it has been used for 10 years I've really grown into thinking it will be a very bad idea.
I've seen many request experts pov, well, I was talking about this with Jordan, and this was his POV aswell.
I haven't been talking to others beside him about it, but I'm quite sure most will be against changing current things. Hopefully more will join in and post their opinion on this.
But nowadays, the small community is still alive. Yet, their main feat is the gifts they get from wealthy noblemen. If it wasn't for them, the guardians would probably be less cautious and they might leave their gem for what it is. In order to seek other wealth and richness.
And that's exactly what the current state in our community is here, in aoczone. We're mostly people who grew up with the game, a lot of the pros are the pros that have been around for a long while. We're not a growing flourishing community, we're a living community, but we're aging. Age is merciless to all, and also to AoC. But if, there might be a way to rejuvenate the community, then I will take a shot at it. Therefore I'm not afraid for making changes to the game either, there's absolutely no written rule that a game can't be patched after such a long time. Firstly because another official patch was planned but was never released for multiple reasons. And also because you can count the games with such a lifespan on one single hand. So to jump back into the storyline: I think I found the fountain of youth for the community, a rejuvenation potion. But it's only a thought so far, if you drink from it, and it doesn't work, then my quest failed. But for now, the few that had the chance to taste it, said it tasted good
~The End~
