Abusing one's moderator abilities is like a ten commandments no-no of moderating.
The user in question has had issues before and in the thread discussing this many users said they had observed this behavior before (heading to a streamers twitch channel even!) -- this isn't his first run in.
I think the idea that framing that situation as a teaching moment instead of someone showing you who they are is while well-intentioned, misplaced.
The guy even comments after Pete covers for him (disagreeing with him,) that he believes he did nothing wrong.
How can you say it's a teaching moment when he (says he,) didn't learn anything?
You can be both well intentioned and wrong.
