Said no one, ever.
If the "community dream" is to make aoe2 an actual esport or at least a very competitive game (like I read everytime there is a big tournament announced or a new sponsor) then you should never let this happen in a 30k prize pool tournament:
3 extra gold piles for one team in a team islands, 0 for us. 7200 gold. 240 free extra galleons. No need to rush trade. You can always comeback in water by dropping a few castles and turtling for a while.
You just can't have an entire match decided by a poor map script with a final 3-2 score. These are not ranked games no one cares about. Test the maps properly before throwing them into a tournament.
I know I may sound a little hard on the map designers, but we were not playing live on stream, we didn't have the possibility to be given admin RE with such a stupid map generation (and it's probably not even in the rules, other than RE for trapped resources). Once we resigned after not taking any extra gold pile and we saw they had 3 there was nothing we could do, couldn't complain to anyone. Just got screwed and had to suck it up.
And just for the record, in a practice game on Arabia last week me and capoch had 3 or 4 extra gold piles whereas the enemies had 0. So it's not just team islands (in which, by the way, not only we had no extra gold piles but also they had more stone and more relics, not that important compared to the gold issue though)
So, want aoe2 to become an actual competitive game / esport? Fix the maps. Keep the randomness for random ranked games. Are you just a casual player or viewer who doesn't care about this kind of issue? Well, feel free to skip this thread.
