I was interested to hear other people's thoughts on my suggestion to reduce the power of Quickwalling. Whilst it creates some epic moments it can severely impact the strength of certain strategies, specifically melee units.
A solution that I have thought about would be to treat part built buildings similar to placing foundations.
Currently, when villagers go to build a foundation they are unable to start whilst units are in the way. Once they hit it for the firs time, no unit is allowed to enter that area, acting as a wall.
What I propose is to allow villagers to begin building the foundation whilst units are in the way but the progress is stopped at a percentage (say 25% but could ofc be altered) at which point they stop until the area is cleared. This would also mean that building foundations less than 25% do not act as a quickwall. A slight but clear visual change could be used to signify this, maybe slightly transparent or greyed out foundation initially.
There are perhaps a few issues that this creates, particular how do you deal with both players wanting to place overlapping foundations but I'm sure this is something which could be worked out.
Overall, I think a change like this would promote more military play and make walls something which had to be planned in advance rather than rushed down.
Let me know your thoughts.
