Wrang of Fire champions, finalists and semi-finalists have had a wide elo range; WoF2 was won by Modri, and WoF3 was won by a 14-16xx elo player Trundo, while 5/9 semi-finalists two years ago were 2k+, all 3 finalists were under 1700 elo, and this past year Tatoh took home the crown! YOU could win an A tier aoe2 tournament, and get meaningful experience against players MUCH higher elo than your own!
In past tournaments there has been "drama" with players 2v1ing others, forming pacts ahead of time, and even intentionally throwing games, or intentionally eliminating each other out of spite, leaving a worse player to move on. This format has seen it all and it's all a part of what makes it so wildly entertaining. If you choose to enter into this tournament, do so with the knowledge that players will do anything they can to win; if that means you get unfairly 2v1'd by a pair of players or a 900 elo player betrays the other while simultaneously sniping your King then THATS HOW IT IS. Do not come into this tournament expecting to be treated with respect simply for having a high elo. This is likely the only chance many lower elo players will ever have of winning a high tier AoE2 tournament; and it CAN HAPPEN (see: Trundo) so my advice is treat ALL participants with respect. No cheating within the game itself, or abusing glitches or bugs, or any IRL shenanigans.
Sportsmanship in communicating between the players and in co-operating in setting the match times is expected at all times. Similarly, non pro players are reminded to be cognizant of professionalism in their conduct at all times; let's try to make this a fun tournament for ALL!
Players WILL NOT be allowed on voice chat this time; co-ordinated actions are absolutely allowed, but all communication between players during games must be done using the in-game chat only.
Qualifiers will take place beginning on Saturday November 25th and all Qualifier games must be completed by 23:59 GMT Saturday December 2nd, with some sets beginning Sunday December 3rd.
The round of 81 begins on Saturday December 2nd.
All games leading up to the semi-finals must be completed by 23:59 GMT Friday December 15th .
The semi-finals will take place on Saturday December 16th, and the finals will take place Sunday December 17th.
There is some flexibility built into all of these dates as I try to accommodate pro players schedules and non pro players lives, but they should be treated as hard deadlines and admins will make judgement calls when players are not available or unresponsive/uncommunicative. Players who are unavailable for these dates should not sign up.
THANKS AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
